The EU environmental policy framework is broad and covers a multitude of topics. How do these policies work together? Do they address key threats to aquatic biodiversity? And what gaps or conflicts exist between them?
The Executive Summary of the AQUACROSS Deliverable "Synergies and Differences between Biodiversity, Nature, Water and Marine Environment EU Policies" provides brief overview of the relationship between key EU environmental policies and their interactions with other sectoral legislation. While the full report goes more in depth, key results of the Deliverable were extracted to highlight policy-relevant findings and inform where further research is needed.
By identifying the most significant threats to aquatic biodiversity, as well as by reviewing the gaps and limitations of the policy framework in place, AQUACROSS contributes to improving aquatic biodiversity protection in Europe and promoting the implementation of an ecosystem-based managament approach.
