Daniel Hering is a widely published and well recognised expert in the science of freshwater ecosystems. He has authored more than 150 scientific publications and given numerous national and international conference presentations on freshwater biodiversity.

Daniel Hering is also responsible for having coordinated several national and international projects implementing the Water Framework Directive and river restoration. Recent examples include the EU research projects such as: Water bodies in Europe: Integrative Systems to Assess Ecological Status and Recovery (WISER) and Managing Aquatic Ecosystems and Water Resources Under Multiple Stress (MARS).
